Venturing Program Changes Coming in 2014

Posted: January 11, 2014 in Venturing

Venturing was originally part of the BSA Exploring Program. It became a stand alone program in the BSA in 1998. The Venturing Program is open all young men and women age 14 (or those who are 13 years old and have completed the eighth grade) through their 21st birthday. In additional to being a co-ed program, Venturing differs from the traditional Boy Scout Program based on a signficantly increased emphasis on leadership development.

It has been no secret over the years that the Venturing Program has faced significant challenges. Overall membership has declined. Venturing currently retains appropriately 53% of its membership. Advancement and awards were often confusing and problematic to follow. Beginning in May 2014, the program will experience very significant and positive changes.
